Thomasina Henrietta Jackson (nee Willis) wrote the following: “This sampler was made by Charlotte Keightley, my great aunt by marriage, circa 1840. Her married name at the time was Wolahan, a corruption of Woolaton or Woolton, etc. The various spellings of Wolohan, Woolaghan etc. was common place at that time. The family were of Cromwellian descent who settled in Wicklow County (Enniskerry). My mother was Emmie Mary Willis (nee Wolahan). My father was Thomas Henry Willis. I am the last of my family born August 5th, 1911. I am now 86 living at 144 Hurst Road, Eastbourne, East Sussex.”  Signed: Thomasina Henrietta Jackson

The verse stitched on the sampler may be adapted from Isaac Watts (1674-1748) poem, There is a Land of Pure Delight. Let us hope and pray that during the lives of men peace may reign on earth as it does in heaven.
