Early 19th century linen and silk work sampler by Jane Price, 1819. This sampler is just stunning with fine quality stitch work throughout. The upper section of the linen is stitched with an exquisite long stitch floral band running across the top edge with the moving “Jesus Permit” verse beneath in cross stitch over two threads. The lower section of the linen is stitched at the center with Jane's name and the date of 1819 with an expanse of greenery beneath which lies a cluster of shells on it framed by foliage. The whole piece is then surrounded by a narrow geometric border. The foliage around the shells on the original was left unfinished and one is able to see the pencil outlines Jane would have followed.
